The Kite in the Oak Tree
On a windy Saturday, Nora and her grandad took a red kite to the park. The wind pulled hard, and the kite climbed high above the pond.
Then a strong gust came. The string slipped out of Nora's hand, and the kite flew away. It landed at the top of a tall oak tree.
Nora felt sad. Grandad looked up at the branches and thought for a moment. He did not have a ladder, but he did have a long garden rake in the car.
He stood on a bench and reached up with the rake. He hooked the tail of the kite and pulled it down, very slowly. One leaf came down with it.
Nora hugged the kite. It had a small tear in one corner, so they went home and mended it with tape. The next Saturday, the wind was calm, so they flew it again near the pond.
